Photograph 59. Oblique aerial photograph taken along the Beaufort Coast showing a region of extreme deformation. The present boundary between the fast ice (upper left) and the moving ice pack is probably the hummock barrier (shear ridge) running diagonally from the lower left corner to the upper right corner of the photograph. Essentially the complete photograph can be considered to be a hummock belt. Note also that even in this region of intense deformation a few rounded floes have not been deformed.
